Why We Started
Every great mission begins with a moment of clarity. Ours happened in Cape Town, 2020.
Cape Town, 2020
In March 2020, while walking through an eerily quiet Cape Town under COVID-19 lockdown, founder Samukhele Mwase was approached by a homeless man. He asked for bread, and she not only gave him bread but added tuna so he could have a real meal. His joy sparked something deeper: the idea that giving could be simple, dignified, and direct. That moment birthed Cowrie, a new way to give that honours culture and empowers communities
A Moment of Connection
What started as a simple gesture revealed the power of direct, dignified giving. It wasn't just about the transaction—it was about human connection and trust.
The Vision Born
That encounter ignited a vision: What if we could scale this direct, transparent approach to giving? What if technology could preserve the dignity and trust that makes giving meaningful?
"True giving preserves dignity and builds lasting connections."
